When you are deciding about which profession you would like to enter you never really think about having to make a presentation. This is something that is required in most professions however, with mini presentations during job interviews to team meetings and internal promotions, to selling to potential clients. Eventually you may be an authority in your field and required to speak at a conference.
All of these things require effective presentation skills, and at Dale Carnegie we have the courses available to help you improve your skills in this arena.
It is important to first think about how confident you appear, even if you do feel nervous. It is ok to have some nervous energy, but the more confident you appear in your work, the greater the chance of success.
Always take a long, deep breath when first standing up to speak. This helps to clear your mind, allows you to focus, and get your words and points in order. During your presentation take time to pause and reflect for a few moments to gather your thoughts and work out where you are in the presentation.
Another important pointer is to remain clearly focused and speak with clarity at all times. A mumbler, or person tripping over his or her words does not portray someone with authority, someone who knows what they are talking about.
If you would like to improve your presentation skills or another aspect of your professional life, the Dale Carnegie team can certainly help. Please feel free to browse our course list to find the perfect preparation for your next speech.
