Life is hectic. We all face times in the workplace where we are tired, have not had enough sleep the night before, and are not as fully focused or alert as we would like to be to perform to the optimal level. There are ways in which you can improve your personal situation to stay clear and focused, and to get the job done to the best of your ability.
At Dale Carnegie we know that we all have issues to iron out, and that we can learn new skills, develop a new mindset, and be positive about changing our life to maximise the potential we all have within us. How can you make sure that you are fully focused the vast majority of the time in the workplace?
Rest – this might sound like the simplest piece of advice, but it is for a reason, and it works. Rest as often as you can, sleep well (don’t go staying up past midnight every night if you are up for work at 7am). It is important you are fully rested and recharged to face a new day of work, but also to stay physically and mentally well.
Learn how to relax – this should be a priority not just at home, but also in the workplace. It is important that you take those moments in the day to have a little rest, learning techniques to remain calm and relaxed and to ward off potential stress.
Remain calm and build habits – keep a clean workspace, as an untidy desk causes a muddled mind. Make a list of priorities each day before work starts and work your way through them. Organise, delegate where necessary, and always solve a problem as soon as it becomes apparent.
Stay positive – In every situation take a moment to step back and face up to everything in as positive a way as you can. Over time it is a habit that helps to lessen stress and make you more efficient in your tasks.
