According to a study by the Society for Human Resource Management, two-thirds of employers are struggling to maintain employee morale, and more than one-third are facing challenges maintaining company culture.
It’s not just business leaders feeling the pain. According to research by Steelcase, people want to get back to the office because they want connection to company purpose, a sense of community and support for their productivity.
With that said, work from home looks here to stay for many. The same study also found that 87% of business leaders expect to offer more flexibility to employees moving forward when it comes to when and where they work. While 23% of the survey sample expect the office to be the primary venue for work, 72% expect a hybrid model of working. But this is not without its challenges.
Our research shows that effective senior leaders recruit the right people for the job, motivate them by giving them clear goals and responsibilities, and train them throughout their careers. In addition senior leaders who give regular, sincere appreciation and praise, demonstrate honesty and integrity, can admit when they’re wrong and genuinely listen to and value their employees’ opinions give their organisation a competitive advantage – regardless of where they work from.
